History of Markham Wilbert Burial Vault

The company was originally started in 1936 as the Holland Brothers Vault Works. The original location was in the Randolph area of Richmond, VA.

Legend has it that for the first year or so Montague Holland's primary desire was to get to the point where they sold at least one vault per day so the company could survive. Their hard work and dedication to customer service got them to that point very quickly.

In the mid 1950's, employees would manufacture vaults in the morning. In the afternoon, they would travel South about 5 miles and lay cinderblock to build a new building. That new building is still in use today and has been added onto many times, but is still part of the current day operation.

In 1978, John Markham purchased the business from Joseph Holland, an old High School friend. John and Earnie Markham (his son) have operated the company since that time..

Services

Markham Burial Vault Service is a full service vault supplier. We furnish a full line of vaults and outer burial containers for caskets and cremated remains. In addition to vaults and outer burial containers, we also offer a full graveside set-up which includes the chairs, casket lowering device, grass, and tent. We also dig graves and provide disinterment services.

Set Up

Markham Burial Vault Services utilizes a vault device called the Wilbert Way to set and seal all of our higher-end quality vaults. This device allows the vault to be seen at the graveside committal and allows us to seal the cover onto the base before the unit is lowered into the ground. This method of sealing helps assure that a quality seal has occurred..

Nameplate

Nameplates give burial vaults a personalized touch. They are standard on all of our selections except the Monarch and grave liner. On our American, we also offer a simulated marble nameplate that is utilized when the unit is installed where the cover remains exposed.

Grave Digging & Disinterment

We provide grave digging & disinterment services. Markham Burial Vault is fully equipped with "track hoe" tractors which significantly reduce the amount of time needed to prepare a grave. We also offer hand digging of graves when necessary at an additional cost. If a previously interred vault needs to be relocated from one place to another, we can assist with that service.

Vault Transfer

Vault Transfer is a service available between Wilbert Licensees and dealers. We use the ability to transfer a vault order when a request for a burial is needed outside of the area that we normally serive. For these transfers, we only need the name of the cemetery and where it is located to determine what vault company we will get to handle the vault for that service. Please keep in mind that not all other companies offer things such as grave digging and full set-up at the graveside. It is best to check ahead of time if possible to see what services can be done by another vault company before final arrangements are made for that service.
